MG Zaku 2.0 WIP pt 6

I finished decaling the kit this morning; unfortunately this is the point where I need to stop working on the Zaku 2. I'm waiting for a parts order from Gentei kits, once those parts in my possession I will topcoat the kit, and begin the weathering washes and pastels coats. If I did the kit seperately from those last few parts the kit's finish would look inconsistent.

Until then enjoy these photos of the decaled kit!

First look: DX 05 Zeon decal set

I received a special order from Gentei kits today!

It's the recently released DX 05 Zeon decal sheet from Bandai. This is the fifth in a series of special limited run decal sheets.

Bandai seems to have this love hate relationship with decals; a year or two ago they stopped producing water slide decal sets for their MG and HG lines. Many of the more sought after decal sets (Sinanju, Unicorn, etc) became scarce and prices began to skyrocket. Since then Bandai has started reprinting old decal sets, created the DX line of decals, included waterslide decals with certain ver. ka and limited edition kits but has not printed new decal sets.

The DX line of decals come packed in a protective resealable plastic sleeve. The decals come packed with a heavy cardboard backing to protect against bending and creasing. The decals are also protected by a sheet of wax paper.

MG Zaku 2.0 WIP pt 5

Being short of time last night I didn't have the opportunity to start decal the Zaku 2. Instead I decided to build up each section and to per-assemble the kit. I will break the kit back down into component parts soon for the first round of top coating. But for now enjoy the unweathered Zaku 2!

MG Zaku 2.0 WIP pt 4

I spent a lot of time last night hand brushing a variety of details onto various parts of the kit.

NYCC 2013

I purchased my three day pass to New York Comic Con today! I realize that NYCC is still 5 months away, but I am very excited. I met a lot of great people, saw some incredible gunpla and got a sneak peek at some unreleased kits last year. And I'm really looking forwards to doing the same this year.

I have started brain storming GBWC entry ideas too. Although like last year I'll probably keep the finished kits a surprise until I arrive at the convention.

If you live in or around NYC I hope to see you there!

MG Zaku 2.0 WIP pt 3

This isn't going to be a huge update, I mostly repainted and primed parts tonight but I wanted to share some of the more interesting elements of the paint job so far:

Big Z's Shin Matsunaga Zaku 2 left a huge impression on me, my favorite part was how he painted the blade of the heat hawk. I tried to replicate the effect. I like how my blade looks, but I prefer Z's.

MG Zaku 2.0 WIP Pt 2

Since yesterday's post I've painted like a man possessed. As of about 2 hours ago the only unpainted color group of the Zaku is the grey interior frame!

I did a lot of little neat things with the paint on this kit, some things I'm going to keep to myself until the kit is finished!

MG Zaku 2.0 WIP

When GB announce he was going to hold a weathered kit contest I knew I had to sign up. It's been a while since I've weathered a kit, and I really needed a contest, build off or something to get me motivated to build another.

The deadline for the kit is pretty tight (roughly a month) and I don't want to half-ass a kit. Fortunately I had a White Ogre Zaku squirreled away.

Starting with some of the small details first.

No blunt spikes here. By adding a bit of putty to the tip of each spike I was able to sharpen each spike to a nice point.

Bro Build Complete MG Astray Red Frame

Here's my final painted up Astray for my Bro-Build with Justinius!

I made a few changes to colors applications, so this isn't exactly a stock scheme. Overall I'm extremely pleased with how the kit came out. This is the first kit I've used a future floor topcoat on, and overall I'm satisfied with how it came out; but I will need to experiment with it more before I'm 100% happy with it.

It looks like the Astray is going to be the first in a long line of build offs this summer. So stay tuned for more!

Frame: Clear red over titanium base

Leg and Arm Armor: White
Chest Armor: Black
Waist Armor: Grey
Eyes & sensors: Clear green over silver
Internal details: Medium Grey

Enjoy the photos!

Delta Epsilon Color Scheme 2.0

When I first photographed the Delta Epsilon I wasn't really happy with the kit. At the time I really just wanted to get it off of my desk. But after reading comments from everyone I decided to take another swing at it.

I only repainted the chest section of the kit. I wanted a color that would contrast less with the surrounding gold paint. Over all I'm much happier with the light blue chest color, and I think that the Delta looks much more like the Hyaku Shiki now.

I also applied a set of black decals from the MG Rezel Commander I found on ebay to the kit. They definitely help break up the chunks of gold.

Enjoy the photos:

Weekend WIP

I don't have a ton of photos to share of this weekend's progress. It's partially because I'm done painting the Astray; and I don't want to give too much away!

However I will happily show off my favorite part of the kit.
